The Old Lit Professor’s Book of Favorite Readings

The Old Lit Professor’s Book of Favorite Readings is an anthology of memorable selections that I have encountered during fifty-odd years of reading. My reason for editing this collection is simply the fun of doing so. Short stories, poems, essays, excerpts from histories, biographies and other forms of non-fiction, and scenes from plays appear. Since reading pleasure is the major criterion, I include classical authors such as Shakespeare, Homer, Melville, and Faulkner as well as popular writers such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; science fiction writer L. Sprague De Camp, and H. P. Lovecraft. Also included are talented local and contemporary writers such as Ann Neelon, Constance Alexander, Jo-Ann Hammons, Robert Allen, Jane Combs, and E. Don Harpe. For many of the well-known authors I have included selections not often anthologized.

Unfortunately I am not satisfied with this book in its present form. I had numerous editorial problems with the publisher. In short, I decided to cut my losses and accept the current version of the book, despite a number of errors. Readers who may be interested in this collection hopefully will able to overlook the problems and enjoy the selections.
